Peck Slip is the FiDi's most romantic secret. With narrow, cobblestone streets absent of traffic, buses, and subway stations, with the Brooklyn Bridge in the north sky and the glistening FiDi towers in the south, Peck Slip is a perfect Valentine’s Day destination. The restaurants below have been highlighted because of their Valentine’s Day offerings, but they are just a handful of the establishments that stud the first floors of the Slip’s historic brick houses. They are all located within a two block area, on Front Street, Peck Slip, and Water Street, between the Brooklyn Bridge and the South Street Seaport. And as of today, they are all still taking Valentine’s Day reservations.
A pizzeria and ‘trattoria’ with chipping brick walls and an open flame stove, Il Brigante exudes southern Italy in both atmosphere and cuisine. On Valentine’s Day, it will be open from noon until 10:30 PM, offering a Prix Fixe menu with five courses for $70, which include a glass of Prosecco; soup or salad; mussels marinara; homemade seafood ravioli, rigatoni amatriciana, or seafood pizza; a 1.5 pound lobster or filet mignon; and a dessert from the regular menu, which includes such Italian wonders as Cassata Siciliana, homemade ricotta cheesecake and, of course, gelato, among others. Il Brigante’s regular menu is also available on Valentine’s Day, with prices ranging from $13 for penne with homemade slow-cooked tomato and basil sauce to $24 for frilled prime rib-eye steak topped with rucola and shaved Parmigiano Reggiano. Yum!
